Calcified
from a journal
Their laughter sounds like dogs now, you know, Leaping wild and yelling words they shouldn't know. Hardened young, before they had a choice— A childhood that no one asked for in their voice. I said the thing I shouldn't say one night, Told them why I couldn't be their light, Just a technicality, just a word, Now they know who holds the final word. I'm watching from the outside looking in, At the calcified weight beneath their skin, Unrecognizable some days, I know, But they're still standing in the overflow.
