Two-Thirty-Two
from a journal
Birthday's behind me now, the clock says half-past two, I'm wide awake and restless, don't know what else to do. The night won't let me settle, there's a fidget in my chest, Another year is folded up, I can't find any rest. I'm chasing sleep that's running from me in the dark, Something shifted when the day turned—left a mark. Not sad, not quite content, just caught between the hours, Birthday's gone, and I'm awake with all its quiet powers.
