Frequency generator hardware vs a browser tone generator
These are not the same product competing on price. One is a physical device that emits an electromagnetic field as well as sound; the other is a web page that synthesizes tones. Most people asking which to buy actually want to know whether they need the hardware at all — so start with the part where they differ in kind.
What hardware does that no browser can
We build the browser one, and these are real limits of it — not hedges.
- PEMF output. A pulsed electromagnetic field is not sound; a microphone cannot record one and a speaker cannot reproduce one. There is no software equivalent.
- Ultrasonic output above roughly 20 kHz, which sits above the ceiling of standard 44.1 kHz digital audio and is removed by every consumer codec.
- Sub-20 Hz output as a direct field rather than as a perceived beat.
- Running with no device, no browser and no power outlet nearby.
If any of those matter to you, a browser tone generator is not a substitute and we would not pretend otherwise.
Where the browser is simply better
- Exactness. A generated sine is mathematically perfect. Anything recorded through a microphone carries room noise, the mic’s own response curve and preamp colour — which is the one property a tone is supposed to have.
- Binaural and isochronic built in. Sub-20 Hz is inaudible and below what any speaker or earbud reproduces, so hearing “7.83 Hz” means hearing a beat between two tones — which is a synthesis operation, not a playback one.
- The research is on the page. Each preset shows what has been studied, with the design and sample size beside the finding — and says “no study we could find” where that is the truth.
- Nothing to buy. It is free, and there is no device to charge, carry or replace.

- Their product page describes the device using phrases including "Restore Your Body's Natural Balance", "Reduce Chronic Pain Naturally" and "Drug-Free Relief".
- The same page carries the statement that the products "have not been reviewed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are not meant to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition."

Which one you actually need
Buy the hardware if
- You specifically want the PEMF output, which software cannot produce.
- You want it to work with no phone, browser or connection.
- You want output above 20 kHz.
- You would rather have a physical object than a browser tab.
The browser is enough if
- What you want is audible tones, binaural beats or isochronic pulses.
- You want to see what has and has not been studied before you commit.
- You would rather try it for nothing first.
- Exact, repeatable frequencies matter more than a device.
